Truck Story
The story of The Teign Canteen
My Food Truck was used to transport honey around an estate in France prior to me owning it. We cut the hand painted bees off the truck walls and use them as a dividing wall between cab n back to save the identity.
Make & Model
1977 Citroen HY Van 1.9l petrol. I wanted a vehicle that stood out, the Citroen HY has a very unique look which people love.
Specialty
I serve simple home made street food inspired by my travels and work as a Chef. The idea came when travelling around Vietnam 6 years ago.
Ideal Customer
My ideal customer is a happy one, getting someone who might not usually eat the type of food I serve is always the best. I love kids because they are so honest as well.
Self Supporting
We painstakingly restored & converted the truck ourselves, from solar panels down to the water tanks underneath, it took two of us a year working everyday on it to complete the project. Completely stand alone needing no outside assistance to cater.
Signature Dish
I don't have a signature dish but vary what I cook as often as I can but I love to serve Fallow deer, I believe it to be one of the best meats we have on offer, when wild and dispatched in the right manner by professionals there isn't a fairer way to source meat. I use one/two year old animals normally and serve burgers, baguettes, stews and soups hopefully getting this product to people who might not ordinarily try it.
Private Events
We love private functions, designing bespoke menus is central to what we do. In the region of £500 is a minimum spend and with long distances we charge a little extra to cover costs.
Favourite Place
After trading at markets in my first year I have moved onto local shows, festivals and events. I love to move around and pop up in new places. I do love to trade in my home town of Teignmouth so get involved with events here wherever possible.
